Pleasant Peninsulas
"If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you." - Michigan State Motto
I created this two layer linocut and relief woodgrain art print as a tribute to my home state of Michigan.
The background layer features a subtle combo of blue, teal, and green inks printed from the back of an antique wood type letter, so the woodgrain shows through in a delicate gradient.
I hand carved this linocut of Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas and the surrounding Great Lakes, and using a vintage map as a reference, carved hairline engravings over the rest of the midwestern states and Canada for texture.
The final layer is printed in a split fountain combination of metallic gold and silver ink, which adds extra shine while allowing the wood grain to show through.
Each print signed and numbered on the back, with a full bleed design.
